HOW IT ALL WORKS
As we get older our Memories gain a greater importance and we quite rightly want to preserve them – especially for the next or younger generations.
The people behind Memories on Film (part of AbsoluteWorks.com) have over 40 years of professional film making experience on feature films and broadcast television. They can carefully and tastefully create your life story film for you to pass on to your children and your grandchildren.
Memories on Film was the brainchild of one of our directors after he lost both of his parents and just wished that he had recorded them and their stories for their grandchildren.
How does Option 1 Work
Filming it yourself
After a chat on the phone where we establish just what you want to achieve from your film we will arrange for a fully charged, very easy to use, Video Camera to be lent to you.
We do not make a hire charge for the camera and stand but we do request a fully refundable deposit which we can secure against a credit card.
Along with the camera and stand we will also supply a charger, a simple instruction sheet, some tips and a sheet for you to write down a title for your film and any notes that you think may help us.
Nobody will be judging your camera work or your performance. We are very discreet and whatever you say on the video will remain completely private and confidential.
You can have the camera for two weeks and in this time you can record yourself, whenever you feel the most relaxed. You can also film some of your heirlooms that you want to give a meaning and a story to.
For instance lets assume you talk about a particular memory and about a certain ornament or similar. If you want to film the ornament simply say what it is whilst you’re recording it – that way we’ll know where to edit it in.
When you have finished filming you simply send back the camera and accessories with all your recordings on it and we will start the process of compiling and editing.
We may have to call you if something isn’t clear to us but we’ll try to keep things as simple as possible. You can also contact us if you need to tell us something.
After the editing is complete we will ‘burn’ your film to DVD or to a memory stick. Although a memory stick is a bit more expensive initially it is often a preferred way of supplying things as it enables the customer, you, to make copies yourself thereby saving you money.
How does Option 2 Work
Filming it professionally
Similar to Option 1 we establish over the phone just what you want to achieve from your film.
We will send you a sort of questionnaire to help you remember the important things you want to include. We will also arrange a time which is convenient to you for a cameraman to visit.
At the most it will be just two people who attend – one on camera and one to take notes. We will require half of the cost up front.
On the day of filming it is important that you are relaxed. There is no pressure to perform or get everything right first time. If you want to have someone with you like a friend or member of the family that’s absolutely fine. Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone with you to make it more conversational.
When we have finished filming we will start the process of compiling and editing.
The whole process from start to finish can take up to five weeks.
We may have to call you if something isn’t clear to us but we’ll try to keep things as simple as possible. You can also contact us if you need to tell us something.
After the editing is complete we will send you a small watermarked video file for you to look at. If you have any major concerns we can address those before ‘burning’ your film to DVD or to a memory stick.

Extras
If you want to add extra filmed material on the day of filming, more photographs, extra time on the finished film, more DVD’s or Memory Sticks that’s fine. We promise to make everything as economical for you as possible.
We archive your finished film free of charge so if one day you want to add to your film, you can.
Extras are charged pro-rata. For example extra DVD’s are just £5 each when you order ten.
The Book of Your Film
After your film has been made we can use it to create a beautiful hard backed book.
We get the film transcribed by a professional transcription company.
The transcription is used as the basis for your book but you can add as much as you want. You can include other material – maybe family recipes that you would like to pass on, anecdotes, your favourite jokes, holidays or special occasions.
Printed on fine quality paper the hard backed book will indeed be something that your family will treasure.
The Book of Your Film starts at just £169 which covers up to a 45 minute film with 15 pictures. Extra film time and pictures are priced pro-rata and we will give you a comprehensive quote before undertaking the work.
It may seem a bit expensive to make a book but it takes a lot of time, work and expense. However we promise to make it as cheap as possible for you.
Extra Copies are from £40 each. You can order as many copies as you would like for relatives and friends.
Our prices are fully inclusive of professional transcription service, scanning either prints of slides, carefully collating the book, design, print and p&p.
Simple Video Message
A simple cost effective option to leave your family a message.
Our Simple Video Message package allows you to record your own video using your own phone. The finished message should be a bout 15 minutes but you don’t have to do it all in ‘one take’. Take your time and enjoy it. When you have finished recording we will give you a special email address to send your recordings to.
We will cut out all the mistakes, include any photographs that you supply (up to 15), do professional colour correction and present it beautifully. We will create a title card at the beginning and end with your choice of text and burn it to either DVD or Memory stick.
Memory sticks are ideal because you can hide them in places for your family to find. Maybe in a jewellery box, a Christmas bauble or even tucked away in your tool box.
We can also supply beautiful photo engraved silver tags to attach to your sticks – Maybe a picture of you saying ‘A message for my children’
Imagine their surprise and joy when they see your surprise message and hear your voice.
We can tailor a package to suit your exact needs . If you would like to be filmed with your family or friends, in a special location, maybe a longer film or a film divided into parts on separate DVD’s we would welcome the opportunity of talking to you about your requirements.
